A National Trust of Australia building, listed on the Victorian Heritage register, The Regent Theatre is an iconic historic former picture palace built in 1929.  Fast forward to 2019, Mariner Group, in association with renowned architects Lovell Chen, engaged the services of Platinum Edge to restore the building to its former glory. Using archived reference photos, and our own proprietary in-house formulations, we used traditional methods of onsite colour matching.  Using specialist techniques and experience we delivered a job we are truly proud to be a part of. Techniques used include- French washing, stipple glazing, staining, French polishing and Gold metallic highlights using Porters custom formulations.

The concrete encased, steel frame, five storey structure was constructed between 1921 and 1928 on the corner of Flinders and Exhibition Streets. The neo-classical facade of giant order Ionic pilasters on both major facades. Platinum Edge was charged with the job of painting the bracketed lights at the base of each pier. The building was the home of the Herald, the Sun News-Pictorial, and the Herald-Sun. Other specialist publications have included the Sporting Globe, Home Beautiful and Who's Who. Victoria's leading country newspaper, the Weekly Times, was also based here. The Herald-Sun is a descendent of Victoria's oldest newspaper, the Port-Phillip Patriot, first published in 1840. In 1930 the steel radio tower was added for the radio station 3DB which broadcast from the building.

The 1948 electric travelling crane and its disused industrial waterfront site are recognised as the most intact cargo berth in the Port of Melbourne remaining form the pre containerisation era.  Platinum Edge Painting are proud to be part of the restoration and lead removal of the 70 year old wharf crane at the heritage listed goods shed 5.  The crane has undergone structural reinforcement and cosmetic restoration before being relocated to the eastern end of the shed.
